چکیده

The leaching characteristics of slag and fly ash from copper-cobalt smelting in the Zambian Copperbelt were studied using pH-static leaching experiments (CEN/TS 14997). The release of metallic contaminants as a function of pH and the influence of fine dust particles and/or time on leaching were investigated. Three types of slag samples with decreasing portion of particles < 500 μm were prepared to assess the effect of sample preparation on the leachability of metals. Fly ash was subjected to 48-h and 168-h experiments. The highest concentrations of contaminants were generally released in the acidic pH region. The presence of fine dust particles increased the concentrations of metals in the slag leachates (e.g., 655 mg Cu kg to 1100 mg Cu kg at pH 4). Significant release of metals from the fly ash was observed at pH 5 and 12, exhibiting a typical U-shaped trend. Only slight differences occurred between 48-h and 168-h leaching of Co, Cu, Pb and Zn, indicating the near-equilibrium conditions in the system.

A long-term static immersion experiment on the leaching behavior of heavy metals from waste printed circuit boards.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are the main components of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Waste PCBs contain several kinds of heavy metals, including Cu, Pb and Zn. We characterize the leaching of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn and Ni) from waste PCBs in a pH range of 3.0 to 5.6 using a novel approach based on batch pH-static leaching experiments in this work. The results indicate that the ...

Assessment of the Leaching Behaviour of Fly Ash from a Cobalt Smelter, Zambia

The leaching characteristics of fly ash from a cobalt smelter were studied as a function of pH and time using the pH-static leaching test (CEN/TS 14997, pH range 5-12) coupled with mineralogical investigation and speciation-solubility modelling. Two sets of experiments with different equilibration time (48 h and 168 h) were performed. The leaching of metals showed typical U-shaped curves with t...

Effects of Leaching Parameters on the Impurity Ion Concentrations at Ulexite Ore Leaching: An Experimental Design Approach

An experimental study was conducted to determine the effects of the leaching parameters on impurity ion concentrations of the liquid phase in ulexite leaching. Powdered ulexite ore was leached in an aqueous medium with sulfur dioxide. The Taguchi experimental design approach and statistical methods were used to evaluate the effects of the leaching parameters (solid/liquid ratio, temperature...

Leaching of Zinc Oxide in Acidic Solution

Leaching mechanism of zinc oxide is important not only to understand zinc smelting process but also to develop of new zinc recycling process. Recycling of zinc is mainly done by treatment of electric arc furnace dust (EAF dust). In Japan pyro metallurgical process is enhanced for EAF dust treatment, however only zinc oxide can be recovered by pyro metallurgical process. Hydro metallurgical proc...

Study on the Leaching of Mercuric Oxide with Thiosulfate Solutions

Mercury is receiving more concern due to its high mobility and high toxicity to human health and the environment. Restrictive legislations and world-wide efforts have been made on mercury control, especially the release and disposal of mercury-contaminated wastes. This paper describes a novel technology for detoxifying mercury-containing solid wastes with thiosulfate salts. Various parameters w...
